His Word Will Go Forth
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Perhaps no other minister has reached the multitudes like the late Rev. Billy Graham; His Christian conversion is often traced indirectly back to 1854 to a lone Sunday school teacher who nearly retreated from the opportunity to witness to one of his pupil’s, a 17-year old boy in his Sunday school class, that he carried a particular burden of concern for.
Fortunately, despite his qualms, the Sunday school teacher heeded to the call and led the boy to Christ in the basement of a Detroit shoe store where the young man worked. And oh, how the angels in heaven must have rejoiced! (Luke 15:10).
That young man just so happened to be D.L. Moody who went on to become one of the greatest evangelists of all-time…the Sunday school teacher, Edward L. Timball, a born-again believer who merely set out one day with a word from the Lord in hopes of reaching a single lost soul ended up reaching the multitudes– that word that has passed through a chain of believers for nearly 165 years converting the hearts of unbelievers worldwide, restoring sight to the blind, healing the sick, bringing deliverance to the captive, comforting the hurting, providing for the poor and needy…accomplishing whatever purpose God pleases to all who hear and receive it, never to return void.
What a wonderful testimony to the power and influence that each of us hold as believers in Jesus Christ yet also an invaluable reminder of our responsibility to spread the love and word of Jesus Christ to all God places in our paths, whether one or many.
Prayer: Lord I pray that will give me eyes to see and the courage to speak your word to anyone to whom I’m called. Please never let me be complacent or dismiss the importance of this responsibility as a believer in Jesus Christ. Father I pray that regardless of how insignificant the task may seem to me I never lose sight of how SIGNIFICANT every soul is and can be to your kingdom…and finally Lord, I thank you for all who obeyed the call to speak your word into my life and circumstances. Please let me use it to accomplish the purpose for which it was intended. In Jesus Name I Pray. Amen.
